Fuel pump woes

1999 k2500 5.7 

replaced the fuel pump and it started up. Drove around for 5-10 minutes fine. Next day went to refill with gas and after starting it ran for 30 seconds then died. Found we inadvertently pinched the return line. 

Now only about 20 psi on fuel pressure. Would running the pump like that with the return pinched kill the pump. 

 

All replies welcome come as we all know how fun and cheap fuel pump replacement is.

Yup, too much pressure.  Sounds liked it worked the pump too hard and burned it out.
