Compressor Oil

I have a small compressor for airing tires and blowing air for cleaning things.

With the colder temps at 9200 feet since moving to the mountains here in Colorado I was having start up problems with my compressor.

I had been using conventional compressor oil. It's 30 weight non detergent oil.

If it was below 40 degrees it wouldn't start.

Releasing the tank pressure before trying to start it didn't help..

The cure was to place an electric heater on it to warm it up or it would trip the 15 amp breaker.

I used Cobalt brand from Lowe's, and various other brands of dino oil..

Lot of choices for synthetic compressor oil.

Switched to Husky full synthetic brand from Home Depot. $10 for 16 ounces.

Royal purple was $25 for a quart at O'Reilly's.

I went with Husky because I was at Home Depot.

Compressor will start at lower temps now.

Synthetic oil, what a product.

:)
