2017 6 speed auto trans question

Ive noticed my 2017 crew cab 4x4 with the 5.3 & 6 speed automatic in the owners manual show a gear selector with drive and M after it. My truck has drive and L after it. Also youtube videos show the M after the D on the selector also. Whats the deal with that ? Does'nt really matter to me, just curious, is there an early and late transmission ?

Good question hopefully someone has the answer. My truck has the M but my dad truck has the L.

My 17 has M i belive its manual mode but thinking back cant remembrmer how to shift it

They both do the same thing, I was just curious as to why the change, maybe it was confusing to people

In the online owners manual on this site it says "L" is the manual position but it doesnt say that in my trucks owners manual, it doesnt even mention the "L". Doesnt really matter I guess

There was a single page supplement in my owners manual of my 17 that mentioned the change from M to L. 

 

The only thing I can think of is that L4 means 4th and lower rather than M4 and people thinking it meant 4th only?
