2015 1500 Sierra Front Shock remove and install question

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am new to the forum and need some assistance regarding front Shock removal and install on my 2015 Sierra. My previous GMC had torsion bar front suspension and shock replacement was very easy.  That was a 2000 GMC Sierra which had 189,000 miles on it when I sold it.

This 2015 model has coil spring over Shock, or it might be a strut. If someone could confirm that as well I'd appreciate it.

My question is, can you somehow remove the front shock without removing the coil spring?  Maybe you need to take the entire thing off, not sure.  or Can you lift the frame, which would drop the lower control arm and maybe that would remove the pressure of the spring and allow for the shock to be removed.

I spotted one video of a 2011 where they raised the truck, disconnected the sway bar to lower the control arm, then took out the entire assembly and replaced it.

Thanks in advance for any advice on this.
