Transfer case

Hello all. My 96 Tahoe will not engage 4x4. Its the electronic version. Push button. When the 4 Hi is pushed the engagement motor clicks and that it. I’ve tried it in park, neutral and drive. Nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jim

Try to isolate a bit,it clicks?so ,click,cause it's trying and failed or clicks with engagement,and your front diff is not engaging,so front tires off ground,engage 4hi,try to turn front drive shaft,no spin,engaged,and no tire spin,front diff actuator?

The click is coming from what appears to be a round solenoid attached to the transfer case.

That would be your transfer case shift motor. You probably have the NP243 transfer case. I don't know if a guy can replace it without pulling the front yoke. Also make sure the U-Joint isn't hitting the motor. That would indicate the output shaft bearing is bad.
