Interior Upgrade Help

Recommended Posts

I’m looking for advice and or any information anyone has on upgrading my interior. I have a 2012 GMC Sierra 2500 WT. I would like to upgrade to a leather interior with the bucket seats up front and full center console out of a higher end model. I am not a mechanic but I like to fix and improve my own vehicles as a hobby. I’ve never tried something like this. Will the upgraded interior fit without issue? Are there any parts I would need to get to go along with this upgrade that aren’t obvious, like a dashboard pannel?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I helped a buddy do this upgrade, aside from the obvious seats, console, dashboard and everything else, if you are looking to stay close to factory, there are wiring harnesses involved to upgrade for radio, hooking up any new cigarette lighter in console, rear entertainment, upgrading to digital/passenger climate controls, door panels are different etc. etc.  Example upgraded interiors have Bose stereo and a pillar tweeters or back up sensors that some base models dont so if your looking to have all features and all buttons on the dash working right it is a ton of work/money to do, but very do able.

I am doing the same thing to my 2011 3500HD ext. cab WT. I found a complete interior in a 2011 GMC Sierra LTZ for $1000 at the junk yard. I took the Seats, center console, door panels and floor and door harnesses and carpeting. The one thing I did not get was the drivers side door panel since it was gone already so I am searching for that. The dash is different in the LTZ so the center console has a notch in it where it meets the dash but I am going to install my mobile radio in that spot so it is a advantage for me. I have install all components up to the drivers side door and when plugged in to the vehicle the seats worked great for adjustment but waiting on the heat . They tell me the drivers switch panel controls that due to the memory module. I have access to the LTZ so I think I will swap radios to get the Bose system since everything is in the center console for it. Otherwise they tell me the radio will need to be reprogrammed also.

The LTZ had side air bags and seat airbags so the system is showing light for that. The dealer told me to check my pin layout since it does move with certain options. I am finding lots of good info on gmupfitters.com for that part of it. In the end I may need to do a re-flash of the BCM but will wait till I can check all wiring and install my drivers door panel

I am finding it will be easier to reinstall the factory harness and have power seats with a couple of connections on the old harness. I will not have heated seats as hoped. The one issue is the new interior is out of a GMC and installing in a Chev. People tell me there are differences in the harnesses.
