GM always
Recently bought a nice '13 GMC Sierra with "103k miles" from a popular dealer out of state with a good reputation. Carfax showed no services on the truck except for front ball joints last year. The truck was delivered to me and when I get it home, I start checking things out and find the odometer on the truck reads 103k, but when I hit the trip odometer, it displays 135k so I'm suspecting odometer was turned back. The dealer wants me to take it to local dealership and have them query the computer to find when it got serviced (change oil light turned off, etc). Does anyone know if GM dealers will do this and if there would likely be data they can discover? Thanks in advance.
casey.mikl
It’s electronic so I don’t know how it would be turned back. If they hook their computer to it, they will be able to see the mileage from the ecu to verify odometer reading. tbarn
The core odometer memory is stored in the cluster on your truck. Any module that needs it gets it from there. The only way for a dealer to change it is to get a new (reman) cluster that the servicing company does not preset. During programming there is a procedure to set the miles. It's a one time event though. Cannot be reset.
