Adjusting DIC values

Recommended Posts

I have the misfortune of not having the steering wheel controls that allow DIC adjustment, i.e., how long the lights stay on when you are in the dark, walking to the house and opening the front door, etc. The puddle lights staying on longer than they do when you are moving people or stuff in and out. Those sort of things. The value on mine is entirely too brief. The manual refers to some values I'd love to have, but I can't adjust them. Well, the DIC doesn't adjust these..., it just reveals their values, but if you have the wheel adjustments, you can change the values.

So, I'm wondering if my dealer has the ability to adjust these values with his Tech II or whatever they are using these days. Does anyone have any idea?

I would say that the dealer and the Tech2 could adjust these values IF: your BCM <body control module> has the ABILITY to adjust.

I am wondering if the BCM is the SAME for a truck with SWC versus a truck WITHOUT SWC.

ARE YOU 100% SURE you can't make any adjustments on your own??

Boy, for $125 option, is it worth it??

What functions do the new SWC control?? Remember I own an 02 so I'm not totally up to par on the latest options!

Options like:

Driver 1 and driver 2 setups

Auto locking

Auto unlocking

Remote lock feedback

Remote unlock feedback

Head lamps on at exit

Perimiter lighting

Curb view assist

Alarm warning type

Display language

Display units (eng/met)

Assisted exit - I don't have this option but it automaticly moves seat all the way back when key is removed to help you get out

Another button that tells you:

Oil life %

Range to emply

Avg econ (MPG)

Inst econ (MPG)

And yet another button that tells you:

Odometer

Personal Trip on/off

Personal trip odometer

Personal trip # gallons

Personal trip avg econ (MPG)

Personal trip avg MPH

Personal trip % of anual driving

Buisness trip has all the same as for Personal trip

Hourmeter

Anual log (miles driven per year)

Timmer

Then you have the stereo controls of’ course along with onstar which is a mute button if you don't have onstar like me

Probably more functions if you have diff options

Yeah, it does, and as I typed my frustration several months back about not having all the waaaay kewl options as listed in stlmaj's letter, I'm still wishing I could get access. You gotta have the controls on the steering wheel, which you and me don't.

Yup, no control at all. Of nothing, other than language and chime volume. And yes, I would have financed in the $125 option when I purchased the truck but my :sigh::) sales droid never told me about the feature.

So, if I could get the lights to stay on longer than just a few seconds, and keep the perimeter lighting up longer, I'd be happy. So, I need to see if that BCM is adjustable by the dealer.

I got a funny story to tell....

When I bought my truck they located me a 03 Z71 with a locker, for $34,000 and it had the steering wheel controls. Well, I went to pick it up and it had a d**n bed liner in it! I knew right away I was not going home with that truck, The liner was screwed into the tailgate about 6-8 times and the bed liner was screwed into the bed of the truck about 8 times! Now I have seen what liners do to beds after awhile so I said no thanks!

I ended up buying a truck off the lot that was $35,000! with the locker but it had the bucket seats and the bose stereo! But no steering wheel controls! Well I never knew that the steering controls did what they did, no one let me know. But I guess I am pretty happy, i'd rather have the bose stereo and bucket seats then the controls.

And this is where I'm surprised at myself. I'm usually quite good at doing my homework and I knew for about half a year I was going to get a pickup to replace my '99 GrandAm. Awesome little car and a real hoot to do modifications on. Seems anything you did to that car just made it better.

I was a member of a list similar to this one and just like here, the mods those guys did kept my wallet bleeding.

I should have (boss at work sez for us to stop "shoulding" on things) joined this list FIRST, and then read the messages and resources prior to purchasing the truck. If I had done that, I would have known about the DIC, and the BOSE, etc. Basically, I was wanting a Z71 without leather, with full power creature comforts. That's all I thought I needed. I gave up the power seats thinking they would rarely be adjusted. :sigh: D'uh. Can't believe I did that.

I did look around at the Chevy site, Motor Trend, etc., but as valuable as the GrandAmGt site was, I just didn't think of finding a similar one for the truck where the "real information" is.

Well, I'm a gadget geek, and even use those skills at work. We teach teachers how to use computers and computer peripherals for given classroom situations. And for ME not to have the full-DIC stuff. jeeeeze-o-pete! I can't believe I don't have that for my truck.

Ah well, I have cried over this spilt milk before here. So, I'll shaddup. :sigh::sigh::)

The driver 1 and 2 go with the keyless entry remotes. Tunsten, have you ever unlocked the doors with remote 2? It should say driver 2 then. On my truck I have the ability to set driver 1 and 2 radio stations, mirrors, and seat position. I think you DO need SWC to do this or the memory package. It's kind of neat, now my wife never screws up my seat and mirrors.
