Resetting ABS light

Recommended Posts

my 09 Silverado was struck with the eventual impact sensor problem. I scanned it months ago, and it said it was the front right impact sensor. I replaced said impact sensor, borrowed a scan tool and attempted to clear the DTC. Now it keeps showing both left and right impact sensors are the issue. I'm trying to find a way to reset the DTC, because I dont necessarily believe the brand new impact sensor is broken. I am also curious that this scan tool my pops picked up for $60 at a flea market can't actually clear the DTC, although it gives that option for it on the tool. Thanks for any help.

I had to replace one if mine a couple of years ago. GM impact sensor system resets itself when you replace a sensor. Your ASR light should have gone out on it's own. I don't know why you have a DTC. I have a GM Tech II scanner and it showed no DTC after sensor replacement. I got an 04 Silverado.

Ok, so now I have both impact sensors replaced and I'm still getting the airbag sensor problem. Anyone have any ideas on if there's a problem upstream somewhere then? The scanner reads that it's the impact sensors for sure.

Before you just throw parts at your truck you should do a little checking. Lol. What kind of sensors did you buy? I have had a lot of problems with the Dormans. And by a lot... I mean ALL.

I am guessing you have a B0083 and a B0084. Is this right? If so does it give you the sub code? The thing with an 83 and an 84 code is they have multiple codes.

DTC B0083 00 - Left Front Impact Sensor

DTC B0083 0F - Left Front Impact Sensor Erratic

DTC B0083 39 - Left Front Impact Sensor Internal Electronic Failure

DTC B0083 3A - Left Front Impact Sensor Incorrect Component Installed

DTC B0083 71 - Left Front Impact Sensor Invalid Serial Data Received

DTC B0084 00 - Right Front Impact Sensor

DTC B0084 0F - Right Front Impact Sensor Erratic

DTC B0084 39 - Right Front Impact Sensor Internal Electronic Failure

DTC B0084 3A - Right Front Impact Sensor Incorrect Component Installed

DTC B0084 71 - Right Front Impact Sensor Invalid Serial Data Received

So as you can see above, you really need to know the Sub DTC. If I were guessing (which i have been on the 83, 84 because you didn't tell us the code you have just the problem.) You probably are getting an 83 3A and 84 3A. But then again... I am just guessing again.

Without knowing the whole DTC I can lead you through all the checking if you have a multimeter and know how to use it. But that's a whole long process and if it is just a 3A problem... Get some decent sensors and the code will clear itself.

You can't clear SIR codes until the problem is fixed. It does a self check right away and when it see's a problem it turns the light on. As soon as the problem is fixed it will turn itself off and then you can clear the codes from the computer.

I hope you didn't throw your old sensors away. lol

I pulled the code and am getting B0083-0F, so the left impact sensor is erratic. Is that just probably because its a doorman? Original code was B0083-39
