Today our PERFECT '98 Contour was hit by a Jeep Cherokee at a notoriously bad intersection. My mom and the cat were in the car. Nobody was hurt. She had slowed to make a turn into the neighborhood when the Jeep hit her. The driver's side rear quarter panel is ruined. I am hoping that it is repairable, that is just such a d**n good car. I was going to Lowes to get a cover for the generator (we were still out of power at the time) with my dad. I pulled up to the stop sign and saw the wreck. I was not suprised. I see wrecks there all of the time. This time I happened to look up and noticed that the Contour on the side of the road looked a whole helluva lot like ours. I kept looking and saw my mom talking to a police officer. I said to my dad "That Contour looks a lot like......IT'S MOM!" I parked the truck and ran over. The cat was in the car because it had a vet appointment and my mom was taking it home. We put the cat in the truck and took her home. That cat is built like an ox and was fine. We drove back and talked to everyone. The exhaust on the car was on the ground and the end was closed. The rear window had slid over, but was not broken. I popped the trunk and it was badly damaged. I am really hoping that the car is repairable. The fact that I could open the trunk with little effort was definately a good sign. Apparently the electronics went crazy upon impact, the wipers and everything came on. Thankfully the fuel shut off kicked in as it should. The air bags did not deploy. Too add to the whole bizzare string of events, the guy who hit the car is in my first period Spanish class. He is a senior, but not yet licensed. He was pretty freaked out, but he did stop and talk to my mom, so I am glad that he did that. My mom hit her head, but she is fine now. Something needs to be done about that intersection. Too many wrecks happen there. I guess it was our turn. I really hope the Contour can be repaired. In the past I have not really been attached to that car, but in the last year or so I have become a little attached to it. I'm really just glad that everyone is ok.

Good to hear that everyone is OK.... except the cat. :D

Too bad about the Contour though, my ex g/f had one, and it was a great car.

If the damage extends into the inner truck as you say, you'll need the quarter, the inside of the trunkj(if two diff pieces), the truck floor, the exhaust, and possibly frame damage. You said it was it on the quarter(I though thats what you meant), so is the rear "axle" damaged, or the wheel hub? if all of the above, you'll be cutting it VERY close with the insurance, but maybe you'' be dealing with a good company. I know what its's like to lose a great car due to a no-fault wreck, I hop it works out for ya.

Sorry about the news bro.. But on the bright side everyone is alright! If by any chance the car is totalled, i've been through 2 totalled accidents just recently, and can really help you work through the insurance Bullsh**t.
