Yoko Geolander A/T II or Dueler Revo's??

OK, I'm stuck. I'm trying to decide on these 2 tires. Here's the deal:

 

I have a '97 Z71, shortbed, reg. cab, 5.7, and 3.42 gears

 

Costco is offering me the Dueler Revo's for $652.92 out the door(mounted, balanced, road hazard, all that stuff) with a color hand held Casio TV for the 285/75/16. I have never owned this tire but have heard GREAT things about them.

 

Discount Tire is offering me the Geolanders (285/75/R16) for $525.12 out the door (mountec, bal, ect. ect). Granted it is a $125 difference and you (I) would think that this would be a no brainer, but for some reason I just can't decide.

 

I think I do like the tread on the Yoko's a little better. They look a little more aggressive to me. I want the best tire of the 2. I'm looking for good off-road(mud, ect.) and highway(wet traction) manners not to mention somewhat quiet with good handling characteristics.

 

So, please convince me one way or another! Thanks!

I think both tires are very good choices and people here that have either one of them have no complaints that I have heard. There are more people running the Revos' , but I think that is because they may be more readily available than the Yokohomas'.

 

If you aren't already running 285's on your truck you will find a decent power loss stepping up to that size due to the 3.42 gears. I guess it's up to you to decide if you want the power, or the looks...

Thats a pretty smokin deal on those Revos...I couldn't get anyone under $750 OTD on those. So I went with the Nittos.

I had 285/75 Geolander A/T's on my last truck. I had a tough time getting a good balance on them. I always had a slight vibration at anything above 65mph. I had them mounted on Centerline Billet Sabers so it may have been the wheels. The geolanders were the only tires I had on the Centerlines so I don't know whcih it was.

I just a set of the Yokohama Geolander AT+II. I am very happy with them. They ride very smooth and are very quiet for such an aggressive tread. The wet traction so far is excellent. I used to have Michelin LTX M/S and my rear tires would spin almost everytime I would take off no matter how much I tried to prevent it. With the Yokohamas, I have been able to accelerate with no problems.

I have also experienced good mud traction. My truck is 2WD and I was able to drive through some sloppy mud the other day with not much trouble. Another thing I would consider is that you are not going to find better customer service than Discount Tire. The free replacement warranty is invaluable. If anything goes wrong with your tires, they are replaced for free. It is definitely better than a regular pro-rated road hazard warranty. I don't think going with 285's will be a great difference since you have the 5.7 V8. My truck came with 235/75/16's and a V6 and I moved up to 265/75/16's. I have noticed a power loss but in your case it won't be that much. I don't have any experience with Bridgestone's but, I say go with the 285/75/16 Yoko's since you would be getting a better overall deal.

Either tire IMO are a great buy. I've got the Revo's on the 4Runner. Went fine in snow and rain, they also ran fine on mud if it was no more than an 1" deep and on flat ground. If you drive in deeper mud, or mud on a hill, or in mud in an off camber situation, forget it. Even my 4x4 4Runner with an electric locker in the rear would slide all over the place. If you actually drive in real mud, not grass with muddy spots, no AT will cut it, not even the BFG's. They were on my Chevy when I bought it, I'd get stuck on wet grass going up a hill with them on the farm. Haven't ever had a set of the Yoko's, but I'd imagine they'd perform the same. AT tires don't have a way to clean themselves out, that's why they don't perform well offroad. People's perception of "MUD" is different from person to person. In MY experience AT's are not going to cut it in MY mud. If you're going to be driving much in mud, and want an AT, might want to look at these http://209.240.4.82/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DID=...D=1263&CATID=10 The 285's will be right at the price for the Revo's. These are by far the most aggresive AT tire made. Sorry for the rambling, it's just when I see the word mud and AT mentioned in the same sentence it makes me when I think of the times I've been stuck with AT's and had to get the Tractor to get me out. OK...I've made my decision!! Dueler Revos! Here's how it went down, short version:

 

I went to a Bridgestone dealer close to work to look at the Revo's in person. While I was there he quoted me $76x.xx. I told him what Costco was offering for out the door. He told me he would beat their written quote by 10%. I wend to Costco got a written quote and took it back to Bridgestone, he gave me the price of $584.xx out the door for 4 Revo's mounted, balance, road hazard, lifetime balance and rotate!! AWESOME!! I took him up on the deal. They get installed on Friday since he didn't have the size at his store, but they did at a store here in town. He will have them tormorrow and put on Friday! I can't wait. So, I thought I got a helluva deal and got the tires I really wanted.

I'm currently running 265/75's on it now. I hope I don't lose much power going up to the 285's. An inch taller and wider, I wouldn't imagine it would be much difference. Guess I'll find out on Friday.

 

I do see what you're saying about the A/T's and mud. I thought hard on a mud tire, but I really don't spend enough time in the mud to justify it, at least that's how I felt. I know the M/T's tend to wear quicker and not have as good of road manners as an A/T typically does. Plus I hear they are quite a bit louder than an A/T. Who knows I might regret getting an A/T now that I'll prob. be more brave tackling, or trying to tackle, mud with new meats. All the reviews I read on the Revo's said they work really well in mud and clean out very well. You are right about it varying from person to person. I know I can't get into axle deep mud, but I hope they don't let me down.

You'll be happy with the Revo's. I just wanted to make sure you'd still be happy with AT's after my experiences. Since you are, I don't think you'll have any regrets, they are a very good tire. I wouldn't have gotten them if I didn't think they were. You'll love the bigger meats! Chris

Stebob, when you get your tires mounted and installed, can you let me know if you have any rubbing problems? You have stock 4x4 suspension without t-bar crank, right? I will need new tires soon, and I want the revos, but need to know whether I can fit a 285/75 or if I will have to go with the 265s. Also, what rim are you using? Thanks!

Good deal, I was going to post a reply indicating that I got my 265's for less than $600 from a Bridgestone dealer. I got a good price there, but then they tried to put the stems from the F-stones on them, so I went to the other Bridgestone shop just as close to home and the service has been top notch. I keep Blue mostly on the road, and the tires have exceeded my expectations and needs in all weather so far- including a near record snow last year near Cleveland.
