Power Steering Noise

I know I know, another lifted truck with power steering issues. Just hear me out.

Hey guys, I've searched forums up and and down and have not quite found my answer yet... Getting very close to trading this truck, but prefer to fix it...

So I put a 2.5" level lift spacer from RC and some 33" 10 ply mud tires on my truck at 35k. Truck was fine until 58k. Then the struts went bad, presumably due to the spacer kit. So I put on the 2" RC loaded leveling struts in place of the OE struts and spacers. Now I'm getting terrible popping noises in my ball joints when I turn, and found that the upper control arms are bottoming on the cross member. So I ordered a Cognito 2.0 adjustable coilovers kit with ACAs to solve that issue. Haven't put it on yet as I'm still waiting for it to get here. As I'm waiting, now I'm hearing a faint binding noise when I turn left and right, but only when I'm sitting still and not moving, though it isn't harder to turn. You can't feel or hear a difference in steering otherwise, and probably wouldn't notice it if you had the AC and radio on. It sounded to me like binding in the power Steering rack and pinion.

I took it to the dealer and they can't find anything wrong with anything. It was killing me, so I crawled up underneath the truck and put my hands on the tie rods while i had my wife turn the wheel. Sure enough I feel shocks running through the tie rods. Now I'm freaking out. I've read that removing the RC lifts have solved that issue, but I'm not sure what to do. I didn't have an issue at 2.5". Should I try going back to 2.5" when I get the lift in? I will add that I am having other wierd intermittent issues like my screen going black randomly, and audio randomly not working (radio, turn signal clickers, Bluetooth, etc...). I load tested my battery 3 times and it said the battery is bad... I'm only getting 320 cca when it's a 720 cca battery, which is 5 years old. If my battery is going bad could that cause my power steering rack not get enough current and make noise? Or am I dreaming for a coincidence and I need to accept it's because of my lift?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    • Still looks like a rivet to me in the pics, I don't see a nut and none of the pics show the head of the screw. But if you says so.....
    • Thanks for all the help so far!   I did try right from 2026 right down to 2021, and only from 2023 down lets me select the option for tire psi change, but I get the vehicle not supported error!   I'll definitely try it under Chevrolet after work today, and I'll get the sensor number from gm for my truck tire sensors. And I'll let you know if it works for me under Chevrolet!   And if that doesn't work, I'm going to guess that what @Atlas said about maybe I have a different body control module could be true!
    • From where I'm sitting this sounds like a compatibility problem. I'm assuming the 2007 was a 900-series truck, and not an 800-series (they were sold side-by-side in dealerships that model year), since it starts and runs.   This is why I HATE post-2006 vehicles. Everything becomes a huge problem when you try to keep the thing running for longer than the manufacturer has designed it to.    I can't remember when Global-A architecture started - either '10 or '11. For your sake, you had better hope it's '11, or you're going to be spending some BIG money to correct this cluster-eff. That's something you need to find out before doing anything else. You may have several computers bricked ... but the fact that it runs tells me you MIGHT be ok here.     EDIT: Just did a quick refresher. You're screwed. This is Global-A. The 2 systems are NOT compatible in the slightest. Once you get the correct engine in there that IS compatible, you're going to need to see how many computers are locked. Absolute NIGHTMARE to straighten out, too. Your buddy might be better off cutting his losses and finding something else.   Welcome to post-2006 vehicle electronics. This is why I quit the industry, and drive nothing built after 1994. This stuff takes all the fun out of wrenching!

    • True, hard to say what differences there may or may not be between Chev and GM as well as a production year or mid year part change either.    I just found it odd that under the Sierra choice on the Autel that many of the last few years of production year did not include the choice of changing the tire pressure but if that is an Autel thing or a GM thing as to why the choices were not there. Knowing what tpms sensors are on the truck should give some guidance into which choices on the tool even make sense to try as I wouldn't give up just yet with the tool but I guess he will see what if anything he comes up with if he finds out a bit more info and tries a few more things on the Autel.
