All, I have a 2006 Silverado with a 4.8 that sounds like 5 prisoners trying to hammer out of prison. I also have a 90,000 mile 5.3 in a 2000 Silverado. 2000 has broken frame... how hard (if possible) would it be to put the 5.3 into the 2006??

Note, there is likely to be some differences, such as the fuel rail (the '00 has a return system, the '06 is likely returnless), and you can't just use the ecm from the '00 in the '06, and various sensors could also be different, as GM revamped the electrical system around '03

Swap the 4.8's intake on the 5.3 long block and just have the 5.3 tune flashed on the 2006's factory computer.  The computer from the 2000 won't even swap in the 06 so don't ever look at that.  Cam, crank and knock sensors are all identical between the Gen 3's.

If you have emissions testing where you live, your truck will still need to be able to pass with the 4.8 emissions standards.
