Did you use the Bilstein-supplied nut, or did you re-use the stock one? Just curious, as I have  set and will be installing soon.

I used the Bilstein nut.  I have had no issues with the nut itself.  It’s a slightly lower profile which helps when you are getting the thread started after reassembly due to the higher compression of the spring.

Glad you found a resolve that makes you happy. The strut shaft is a pressed fit like the tie rods and ball joints. This is why the factory uses the nut they do as it pulls the strut shaft up in where its designed to fit. The bilstien nut does not accomplish the same.

Good luck on your endeavor. If you have knocking or squeaking in the future just swap to the factory nut.

Thanks for the note.  Why do you think Bilstein provided a different nut?  It would have been cheaper for them to just say to reuse the OEM nut, especially if there was a functional benefit?  I would have thought that their engineers would have thought of the issue that you brought up with how the rod presses up to the different style of OEM nut versus the nut they supplied?

Iirc one of the forum members asked bilstien. Its been a while so i forget what the answer was. Just know you are one of many who have had this issue and the factory nut resolved the issue permanently. If you asked about your squeek/ soon to be knock sound in the bilstien thread over time those who had the issue will vouch that the factory nut resolved the issue.

Thanks for your help.  I’ll have to consider changing my nut in the spring if my issues return.  I appreciate your help.  If you do end up finding the Bilstein thread from years back I’d be interested in reading it.  I did a lot of searching and wasn’t able to find that before I posted this thread.
