Well, I just re-enlisted in the Air Force today with a little over 16 years in, which will put me at 21 years of service once that time is up. I'll be able to retire at that time (or any time after 20 actually) at the age of 39. Man, those years have gone by fast.:)

I am on my way! I started in the Army and now am in the Air Force. I joined the Army so that I would not be living in a shelter half and eat MRE's all the time and I deployed to Iraq 6 months later, I just got back a month or two ago. I volunteered to go and would have done it again in a heartbeat. I am excited for you and I hope that everything works out well. Thank you for your years of dedication and service, your sacrifice and the sacrifices of those like you are the ones that teach and influence the younger enlistees. Thank you.

Tom, your country's proud of ya :) !!! It's you and those like you that make us great  .

I served four years in the Army. About a year in Isreal during Desert Storm shooting down Scuds  . Would never have considered reenlisting....

...until 9/11 :lol::lol: . Had I not had a family- I would have re-up'ed that day  ... Still pissed about that  ...

I re-enlisted twice, then they took my bonus away. That, and I had too good of a job offer here. So I bailed at 10 1/2 years.

 to you for sticking it out.

Whew, and I thought I didn't have it too bad with scheduled retirement at age 49 w/25yrs on the pd. Mind you, I've got 20&1/2 to go, but it's all about the big picture. Congrats Tom. I know I tossed around the idea of the Marines when I was having issues with roommates and such my first year at school(was away from home). I think sometimes of what an opportunity it would have been, and like others noted, I have the utmost respect for those who serve. Our job fighting the war on the streets is tough enough, but to be away from home and having to fight more unknown enemies.
