What is the difference between the 3500 and 4500 with the cutaway utility bedI have a deposit on a 14 foot GMC 4500 with a utility bed but I’m debating whether to get a 3500 there about 7000 cheaper I’m not towing anything just keeping all my tools for construction

Lots different.

Depends what features/specs you are most important to you.

Different versions of the duramax, if that's important.

(looks like a gasser is available in the 3500 only,)

Transmission and rear end offerings are significantly different.

It's also possible to do a factory built 'bed delete' 3500 (one that's not a CC)

Yeah, the 4500&up are basically a completely different truck, except perhaps most of the engine, and the transmission.

IMHO, if you don't need the 4500 for a specific reason (weight, size of cube you can put on it, ground clearance, whatever) that the 3500 can't meet, I would suggest going with the 3500.  Everything about it will be cheaper.  Registration and insurance should be cheaper, parts will be cheaper, more readily available and available for longer (both oem and third party), easier to get in/out of.

4500 transmissions are NOT the 1000 series 10 speed that is in the 2500/3500.

4 rear axles - 4:10, 4:30, 4:56 and 4:88

There are 18 possible transmissions offered  in 4500 -- multple 6 speed models

example:    MWA    Highway Service Transmission, Automatic close-ratio 6 SPD with double overdrive, Allison, A1700HS, ratios: 3.10 1ST, 1.80 2ND, 1.40 3RD, 1.00 4TH, 0.70 5TH, 0.61 6TH Highway Series, 19.5K GVW & 26K GCW Max., requires PTX and park pawl. Available with GVWs less than or equal to 19.5K

Engine is lower horsepower and torque rating than the L5P in the 3500/4500

L5D    Engine, Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8, B20-Diesel compatible, 350 hp @ 2700 rpm, 700 lb-ft torque @ 1600 rpm
