95 Silverado Motor Swap

Hey Guys,

I have a 95 4WD Silverado with the 350 TBI. I've continually had problems with different things and have spent a lot of money at the shop over the last year to justify continuing to do so. I want to just start from scratch, more or less. I've thought about getting a used 350 Vortec and rebuilding that. A buddy suggested, pending price and budget, finding a running 5.3 and just dropping it in. My question is, if I were to go the LS route, would it bolt up to my 4L60 or would I need to get an LS 4L60e? If I had to swap the transmission as well, I read somewhere about possibly having to get a 2WD transmission. Any input on that?

Also, if I decided on an LS swap, does it matter which VIN code I use in terms of where it came from? Aluminum or cast? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Many new parts on the tbi?do the same engine again?step up to vortec 350,but get new intake manifold to keep tbi? simplest route,ls will require fuel pump, harness, pcm and tranny to go with,so, basically a donor vehicle

After a little more research and speaking with some people, I think I am going to jump to the 350 Vortec. It just seems to be the most practical way to go. Either way, I think it's cheaper than getting a new truck.

H.p.gain,even with the t.b.i.,bad part is the hybrid intake manifold isn't cheap, and make sure to get the flexplate and exhaust manifolds with the vortec

You will have to reprogram the chip, I put a vortec long block in my 93 and the people at gearhead efi helped me with tuning and data logging so I can burn my own chip. Not hard to do the swap. The hard part was the EGR tube for the visual inspection for emissions ( EGR is disabled in the chip). Only big purchase was the long block and intake.

Hey guys,

I appreciate the feedback. After doing some reading and price checking, I am going to stick with the Vortec. However, I am going to keep the EFI. I found one out of a 99 suburban that I will go through and spiff up. Things I know I will need:

Flexplate

Fuel Pump

EGR tube

Anything else that is a mandatory purchase for this swap, let me know.

Thanks a ton.
