First upgrades to a new truck

Hey y’all

i just bought myself the 2019 Sierra crew cab in black. I got the base model due to the value I got it under (year end clearance December 2019). I got them to throw in brand new AT4 takeoff 18” wheels and duratrac tires. This is my first pickup truck and man, why did I wait so long to get one!! I’ve had the truck about a month, so far I’ve installed a matte black low profile toolbox, put a 2.5” leveling kit, installed GM underseat storage, installed GM tow hooks, and  installed factory blacked out GMC emblem package. I just ordered some running boards that are OEM knockoffs ($160 on eBay rated really well). Just wanted to see what you guys thought some solid upgrades are to do to a new truck? I also plan on painting the chrome rim on the grill onyx black, my father in law owns a body shop can have it professionally painted to match.

cheers!

All great upgrades!

Thank you, I plan to tint the windows, setup remote start/keyless entry (truck literally came with 2 keys, not even a lock fob!!) then maybe something with the exhaust?

Welcome - good looking truck . Photo's of grill when painted . Thank's

Thanks! Definitely will. He already has it sitting at his shop painted and clear coated. Just need to find the time to get over there to get it done. I think it will make a huge difference in the appearance as that chrome looks out of place to me on the base model.

nice truck !   not sure if the Sierras come with footwell and under seat lighting, but my HC didn't. I installed some Govee lights from Amazon.  The interior lighting in the Silverado is weak in my opinion and this simple $30 addition makes the interior look way better at night.   Also added a divider to the center console and added a couple addition USB ports for gadgets charging on a trip.

Thank you! Sierra interior lighting is definitely nothing to write home about, my base model at least. I have been considering doing exactly that! Do you power from a 12v/usb or hardwire it?

I ran a wire from the passenger side fuse panel, down the console to the back, and then up inside the center console. It's super easy to access from the back I think.   There are two bolts there in the bottom, snag a ground there and then I put a small panel with a 12v cig socket, two USB powers and a little power switch. (amazon)   I plugged the lights in there, so I always have a way to unplug them.  I buried the controller inside the center console and put one light under each seat and in the foot wells.  it came with a keychain remote, but also has an app to change colors etc.    I like that if you were to add another light kit, rock lights etc.. you can control them all from the app.  not sure I'll go that far, but I like options!

Just installed that rim on the grille that was chrome, we painted it onyx black and I think it came out pretty damn good! What do you guys think? My side steps get here tomorrow and I'm hoping I get a chance to put them on at work, I'll upload a photo if I do.

    • This is a really late reply but I just found this thread. They won't sell the hinges. I've gone 7 rounds with them. Their solution is to buy a new cover. I'm about to buy a new cover and it won't be a Bakflip. It also won't be from realtruck.com.
    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
