Yeah, I wasn't saying you have issues personally. I was saying the battery cables have issues on these trucks. Sorry if that was confusing. I still need all the codes and I can help you with this. I can also give you information that the other dealer could be overlooking if you give me the codes.

Ok just got it back still not fixed here goes with the codes u0073 u0102 u0101 u0121 u0140 u0401 p0575 p0700 p0856 p1506 p2544 u0415 u0100

Ok, I am going to do some research on these codes and follow them down a high speed circuit and see where the problem is more than likely. Is the vehicle working fine at the moment or is it failing currently?

Did they give you the printout I asked for? The reason I ask is I need to know which module is setting the codes. For instance, the ECM is setting the u0073 and the BCM is setting the U0102.

Truck is running fine now but that will change lol

All grounds checked and cleaned took to dealer and they replaced positive and negative cables 450$ still having the same issue 1000$ this month no luck 

What about the battery harness or the wire that goes to the fuse box?

Ok. So this is why I really needed you to get the print Report from GDS2. Its not your fault, They should have just printed it out for you instead of making you right it all down. The reason I say that is it shows the EBCM with code u0121 which is no communication with the EBCM. The EBCM can not give itself that code. Another thing is I am missing some key module codes. In the schematic I have below you have a TCIM (onstar module) HMIC (radio module) and Power steering control module all on the system without any codes in them. This is impossible. You have a EBCM that can't communicate with the BCM,TCCM,TCM and the TCCM that can't communicate with anything yet you have no codes in the TCCM or the PSCM? That means the system has to make some wiring jumps that are impossible unless this vehicle creates its own wiring as you drive. Next they wrote, or told you to write. No communication with the chassis control module or the park brake module. Well the reason for this is, your vehicle RPO's tell you that you don't have JL1 (chassic control module) and trucks come with a manual parking brake... so you don't need a parking brake control module... So your truck doesn't have these modules, that's why they are not communicating. 

 

I hope you didn't pay them anything. This is actually making me upset they didn't take the time to give you the proper information because they are either 1.) Lazy 2.) don't want to tell you they have no idea what they are doing. or 3.) Don't care enough about you to help you. This is why dealerships get a bad name.

 

With that said. With the information you have given me. I have a question. When everything goes crazy  in the truck, does it cut off?

 

I will explain.

 

It looks to me that you have an intermittent wiring failure between the ECM X1 39 and 40 to TCM X1 10 and 11.

That or you have a bad ECM.

 

If the truck does not shut off when this happens that lets me know the ECM is still working, it just cannot communicate with past the break. If you would check across terminals 6 and 14 at the DLC when the problem happens. You would probably find that you have 120ohms of resistance instead of the 60ohms you need. This would be because of the break in the system and only reaching 1 terminating resistor. If you look at the document there is a 120ohm resistor in the ECM and a terminating 120 past the EBCM. If the whole system is working you will have 60ohms. If it's at 120ohms you disconnect the ECM and check again. If it has 120ohms still you start bypassing modules on the way to the ECM also back testing the 120ohm resistor across each module you disconnect.

 

I know this looks like a whole bunch of jibberish. I understand it 100% because I do this everyday but I can see how it would look like Japanese. If you don't understand something I have said please please please ask and i will do my best to explain it further.

 

Your next step should be to get a printout from GDS2 of the DTC report even if you have to go to a different dealer.. If i can get that I can get you pretty close if not 100% completely accurate of where the break is or narrow it down to 2 modules and a pair of wiring that will be easy for someone to check.

 

Or you could just get the dealership to unpin, solder and replace the 2 terminals at the ECM and TCM and run new wiring. This is what I would do if it were my vehicle. I don't know that I would let the dealership you took it to do it... But that's again up to you.

My handwriting is way better than that lol that is what they gave me and they wouldn’t let me have my truck until the bill was paid but no truck has never shut off on me I did cut it off to reset the limp mode one time and it wouldn’t crank back up for like 2 minutes. I gave them a terrible review they probably wouldn’t give me anything now will probably trade this thing in soon

I hate that cause this is literally an easy fix. I know it sounds in depth, but $20 worth of wiring, $20 worth of terminals and you're fixed. Is it a big dealership? This is something that needs to be fixed at a dealership, just not that dealership. Are there any other dealerships close to you? Take a trip to SC, I'll fix it for you. lol

My Silverado had a very similar issue. Lots of faults, reduced power and eventual death. And also when the weather was wet/snowy and crappy. Then after sitting would miraculously self fix. Turned out to be a corroded network wire just in front of the rear wheel. When it got wet it grounded the network and nothing could communicate. A bit of solder and some heat shrink solved it. To the credit of the dealership I dealt with, they really worked to dissuade me from replacing the EBCM when I thought it was the issue, saying they had yet to see one fail. So I persevered until I fount the nick in the insulation.

I appreciate your efforts on this it does give me hope I’m going to a shop I was referred to today to see what they say

Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.         
    • I trust you saw the other comment where he knew what he was talking about !. Yes, these darned newer vehicles with all their so smart they are stupid technology, goes and drains the battery down. As you might see my other comment, I installed a Noco 5 battery tender under the hood and at this point still have the cord routed so I have to lift the hood and then plug it in but am typically parked in a garage or a shed so its not risking the engine hood in the wind. That way I am assured or hopefully so of not finding I have a battery drawn down and can't even start the truck and that also damages the battery to draw it down too far. 
    • I guess no surprise my guesses were wrong !, at least now I know if I ever happen to see it grayed out in my own truck as to what is going on.    I never happened to catch my truck with it grayed out, it seemed every time I would test to see if there was an update it never found anything and yet more than once I would check to see if there was an update and there was nothing, then a day later or even that same morning I would drive to town and after more than one engine shut down in town as I did my errands it would pop up that there is an update now ready to install and the only place I have a connection to the internet is at home by wifi so its not as if it grabbed the download while driving. I don't trust these new vehicles due to all the crap they can decide to do while sitting for some days not running and run the battery down so most of the time if I know the truck will sit for a few days I plug in the battery tender I have mounted under the hood and so the only time the truck must have downloaded software was when it was sitting in the garage where the signal is awful but I have that tender plugged in and somehow it managed to download it. I honestly detest all this crap, way to easy to leave a person stranded.    Since I don't trust any of it I don't do the install of the already downloaded software until I get home and sometimes have even sat in the truck to watch what its doing as its going through the process to its conclusion as its not like it is set up that it will tell you the next time you fire up the engine that the update that was initialed actually installed or installed properly. Yes I can go into the updates and see the list. After I go through the install where I feel its safe to do so in case it breaks down as a result, I will plug in the battery tender after the fact to recharge as I don't know how much power its taking just to do the install and that can take a while for it to install. 
    • Thanks for the reply. All settings were correct and the engine was off, as it was supposed to be. It turned out to be something simple. I took a drive for about an hour. I must have had a low battery without knowing it. The voltage gauge on the display looked ok. At the end of my drive, I shut off the engine and the update prompt came up and it updated normally. It’s ironic because one of the features of the update is a reduction of battery drain.
