Humming Noise

I got a humming noise, in my 2000 Sierra 1500, coming from up front, on the passenger side.

I happens after you have been driving for around 10-15 minutes. When you take your foot off of the gas, the noise decreases.

What are the symptoms of a CV axle going or gone out?

I can also feel a small vibration.

If it is the CV axle, can I remove it and safely drive it, to verify that is the problem?

I suppose you could remove the axle and just have the stub there free spinning, it's not like it can move anywhere.
