My Labor Day weekend is typically brought to a close with a really nice bbq steak.  I laughed as I ate my traditional meal this past Monday.  The taste and portion size of my once revered meal have drastically changed over the years.  The same may apply to Bourbon!

So is that bigger or smaller :)

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked

Uncorked my second bottle of this last night and really gave it some consideration. Well as much as a common sewer of spirits can. I was pleased that it lived up to the first bottles promise that I had when I started this thread. Steady is good and five months more than enough to clear the stock.

Normally I drink on ice, two fingers and two cubes but this one I enjoyed neat as a single in a brandy glass. It is one of a few that my dull mouth can separate the stages to give somewhat the experience an expert might get from a fine spirit. I think :)

Has nice legs and the warm bold front lingers on the tip of the tongue. A smokey retreat to the back. After two sips it does what all neat pours do. Blinds the senses. That is not a detraction, it's a reality. This one past one is a waste of  your money. Move on to a cheaper more raw drink for number two but savor the first. IMHO it's a good' n.

I agree. Just recently opened a bottle of this myself. I also had the pleasure of having Knob Creek’s single barrel reserve, aged 9 years. 120 proof, but it still tastes smooth and delicious. Expensive, so this one is only for special occasions, but it was a pleasure to try out.

Four Roses has been around a long time I can't believe I'm just getting around to trying it.

Entry level yes

On Sundays when I worked at Chevron we use to wash wax the control room floor. This stuff taste like that wax smelled.

Nasty stuff. IMHO of course.

First time trying Elmer T Lee this weekend. Hard on the budget, but it was cool to give it a try. Very smooth. Almost too smooth.

When I was young and ignorant and had friends in the business of tax free liquor and drank white dog from a mason jar I never considered taste. It all taste like floor wax, kerosene, nasty and harsh but 'did the job'. Well, the job has changed. Taste matters. Smooth matters. I like to drink something that doesn't close your throat and rot your stomach and make your head pound. I sip instead of gulp now. I know very little about it actually and I think that may be working in my favor.

I've been able to slice though a nice sampling to rough out my tastes to a larger degree than ever before. For example I find I do not like Scotch. Not a fan of the taste of 'peat'. Better used in the garden. Not big on Rye either. Largely that leaves me with Bourbon. The less rye in the mash bill the better...so far. After that revelation it seems to be mostly about the barrel and time and time is my friend. I also seem to like double barreled spirits. If not done to long in the second barrel.

It's fun to investigate slowly.

I'm still working off this SAME bottle.

I will never buy this stuff again.

I’m a fan of Gentleman Jack, Makers, Wild Turkey 101, and George Dickel #12 in that order through the winter. Through the summer it’s the banquet beer mostly. It always tastes better when someone else is buying.

I never really liked beer although I drank allot of it but mainly so I'd be standing at the end of the evening. Hard to match your drinking buddies one for one, shot for beer. ?

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage, Makers, Evan Williams Black Label, in order of preference. First two neat, second two on the rocks. Backwards in order of volume.
