Fluid Capacities for a 01' 2500HD

Does anyone have the fluid capacity information for 2500HD w/ the 6.0L and the 4L80E Trans. I am looking to change out the front and rear differential fluids and the transfer case fluid myself for the first time. Also is 75w-90 Amsoil gear oil good for both the front and rear diffs. I think the factory suggests a heavier weight oil in the front diff, but I thought I have read some post on people running the same weight Amsoil in the front and rear diffs. I eventually may do the transmission with Amsoil as well. Just don't know how difficult it is to flush and fill on the 4L80E completely with new fluid. Any suggestion or things to watch out for would be appreciated. I just want to make sure I get what I need to get the job done right.

Thanks everyone....

The AMSOIL gear lube will work just fine in both. I have been running it in my 1500 for over a year now and 41k on the truck.

I don't have the spec's here at work with me on how much fluid you will need. I know mine took just over 2 qts of the Series 2k 75w-90 for the rear diff and just about 2 qts for the front. Yours shouldn't take much more. I will have to wait till I get home and look up the capacities in the book when I get home.

My transfer case takes the Auto Trac II from GM and AMSOIL doesn't make a replacement for it yet and mine took 2 qts of the Auto Trac II.

I used 16 qts for my 4L60E when I exchanged the fluid in it through the cooler lines. That way I knew it was as close to 100% exchanged as possible. I don't think the 4L80E would take much more if any. You can do the cooler lines exchange or just change out the fluid through the drain plug once a year and at the third year you would have mostly changed it out and it is spreading out the cost over a three year period as well as keeping fresh fluid in it for three years. Just a thought.

IIRC, the front diff is a little less then 2 quarts, while the rear is about 2. The tcase took 2 quarts of ATF, but I don't have the Auto-Trac (which takes a unique kind of fluid, and it's best not to mess around with anything other then what GM says for that thing). The tranny is almost 15 quarts, but if you're gonna get it flushed they usually want an extra quart or two, so better get at least 16.

Technically, the front diff takes 80w-90 and the rear 75w-90. I swapped mine to 75w-90 all around, and thus far I haven't had any problems.

Thanks for all of the info guys. That covers everything I think. I don't have an Autotrack t-case so I should be alright there. Appreciate all of the help. :sigh:
