So I took my rig with only 1400 miles into the dealer today for a CEL. Code was for the battery controls module connection. Turns out my charge air cooler is leaking and dripping into the control module plug, causing the CEL. Anyone else had this issue before? They are ordering the parts and I go in next week for the fix. However I leave tomorrow to tow a 7000 lb trailer 300 miles away, and back. Should I be concerned about driving it? They said it will be fine, but would like to make sure.

Also - is the “charge air cooler” the same as an inter cooler?

thanks!

Yes it is.

An air to water one rather than air to air that the 6.6 uses.

I'm assuming you have a 3.0L duramax?  Me personally I wouldn't drive it especially pulling a trailer with that weight.  The adding weight could cause the leak to become worse.  Plus the leaking could cause the control module to fail unless you redirect the leak.  I had an oil leak and immediately stopped driving until they fixed.  You never know when the leak could become worse and I wasn't risking it.  It sucks with covid, because it seems like it takes forever to get the parts or get the truck fixed.

Hello. I have had my truck since buying it new in early 2020. Can’t remember the mileage when it started. But I started smelling a faint smell of antifreeze at the grill of the truck. I noticed the small reservoir was low and I had a CEL come on. I took it to the dealership and they said they could not find anything wrong other than the low coolant. They refilled the coolant and sent me on my way. This happened two more times and each time they could not find anything. They did however put a UV due in the last time I went. So now the truck is back at the dealer for the same issue and they have finally found the culprit. A leak on the charge air cooler. Which is on back order… Wondering how many others are having this issue?
