Is there a non dealer way to update '17 Navigation to 2020?

Since you asked, this has been my experience...

 

I have a 2018 2500 Denali.  It frustrates me to no end to have to pay for an upgrade, when I have a Garmin which gives me free upgrades for life on line!

 

I gave in and bought the 2020 upgrade from GM/Here maps, and paid about $100 after the discount.  Mind you, Here Maps provides the mapping to everyone, Garmin, Google, etc.  Those companies add the routing, retail, and other ammenities.

 

The new 2020 GM update does not show a new (2 years old) 4 lane road we have in town, yet Garmin, Google and everyone else has it!  The "upgrade"  also shows my house on the left as a destination, when my house is on the RIGHT!

 

It comes in a thumb drive which you can load once, only once. 

 

When you call GM, you get some nice lady in the Philippines, who is very pleasant to talk to, but doesn't understand a thing you are talking about and is programmed to send your call to On Star!

 

After several calls to Here Maps, they will be giving me a total refund.  

 

In my opinion, every new GM vehicle should come with a separate Garmin navigation system!  The software for the GM does not compare, and you should not have to pay for upgrades!  Especially when I dropped a bunch on a Denali!!

 

I love my Garmin with a 7 inch screen.  I tow a 33 ft travel trailer cross county and appreciate the added detail with great turn by turn and lane guidance.  The GM Navigation is a poor substitute, especially when they ask you to PAY for it!!!
