For those of us who don'tknow much about firefighting, could you please explain?

This is obvious to most but for those who dont know here we go .

 

Ok , This is a hosebed :duh: .

When you pull up to a hydrant you drop the open end of the hose (the end on the top of the load) , then the driver pulls forward to the scene , once the driver reaches the scene most the time there is still a lot of hose left in the bed so the driver pulls off the closest coupled section of hose and then proceeds to connect it to the pump intake .

Like here notice how there is still extra line left in the bed once the lay has been made ......

From the picture in my first post it looks like the hydrant man got all connected and didnt wait for the signal from the driver to charge the line thus all the hose in the bed has become charged making a big mess
