Smog/Non-Smog Legal Heads

Does any one know the difference between smog legal heads with C.A.R.B numbers and non-smog legal cylinder heads? Could i get away with using heads with out C.A.R.B numbers on my 92 Silverado, as long as I still past emissions tests? Also what items are checked for such, egr, etc..., during a safety/emissions test? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  My 26 6.6L Gas only gets about 11.2 around town. Envy you guys getting over 12 LOL. I assume its because its a TB and has 34" tires vs 33".

  You could try a used 1, they used that engine in the Astro vans, Plenty of them in the boneyard. Look for a wrecked or rotted 1 so the chance that it was scrapped for that reason and not a mechanical issue will be greater
