Experiences driving a 3500 SRW over 2500 and a 8ft bed vs 6'10"

Recommended Posts

The main difference is: stiffer frame, beefier rear differential, slightly heavier suspension, not just over loads, springs sway bars etc, and beefier brakes.

i have a 2020 3500hd SRW and find the ride quality on an empty truck. Ive had several dualies and wont own another one and i tow 4 days a week, there great on the interstate with a heavy load. Their a pain in cities, also if you spend anytime on dirt, mud, wet surfaces, grass they have poor traction unless loaded up, and the ride is really stiff empty.

All drws are long box.

On previous generations all dmaxes and 3500 gas got the larger rear differential.

New axles for 2020+.  I don't recall if this is still true.

I’m not certain, after pricing both out, the price difference is $1000. When I ordered my 2021 it was closer to $400. In the past, some of the price difference was accounted for by certain content which was standard on the 3500; but optional in the 2500. I don’t know if that still may be the case (I couldn’t find anything in the order to suggest it is). There are some options that differ; for example, the mud terrain tire option is not available on 3500’s (assuming due to load rating).
