2016 Silverado LT

I recently purchased this item: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WGN7WRY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

(OEM NEW Keyless Entry System Transmitter 2017 Buick Chevrolet GMC 23473339)

I took it to my dealer once, and they told me $250 to program it.  I took it another time, and they said it won't work with my truck.

Could any of you tell me

a. Will this work with my truck?

b. If so, how can I teach my dealer how to do this?

It might. Its made for the 17s and later but it's been successfully programmed on late build date 16s. When talking to the dealer its all because of the BCM. I have not had a problem with 17s and later. It's probably why they came back and said no. You could see if you can find someone that can try and program it for you.

2017-2018 and 2019 LD old body.  Doesn't fit 2014-2016.

The way its programed to the truck, nobody outside a dealership can do it.  The ID card that comes with it has to have a picture of it sent right to GM's programming department, along with all the dealership's info and your VIN in order to authorize the programming, and then they send back a file that the dealer uses to install the re-programming vis GM SPS.

Also, the $250 they quoted you is a rip.

Not true. Repair shops can as long as they have the proper authorization and equipment. Especially in areas like mine where there are not many dealers.

OK, it sounds like this thing I have will work for some 16s and not others.  Thus, I have these questions

1. How do I determine if my 16 is one of the ones where it will work?  Do y'all know a smart tech with whom I could share my VIN?

2. Are there any number-keypads that would definitely work with my truck?

Not sure but I think that the keypad only works on 2017 and up but here’s what I found while getting my keypad installed.

I asked the dealer where I bought the truck to get it and program it and asked about total price. Quote was $260.

Went to the local Buick dealer and asked – quote was $350.

Went to a smaller dealer about 15 miles from home. Total installed cost $176.

The service manager at the smaller dealer was not sure how to program the keypad – said that he would get back to me in a couple of days.

When he called back, told me that he called corporate about the install. Then said that there was a factory rep who would come to the dealership and program the thing for $42.40 including tax. Cost for keypad itself - $125 plus $7.50 tax

To me, it appeared that the first two service managers were pulling the cost for programming out of the air.

It doesn’t hurt to shop around for cost of install.

Rather than having the thing stuck to the door, I asked for it not to be installed but only programmed. In this way, I could experiment with various locations. Finally put it on the lower left side of the windshield. Works OK in that location.

- No way of knowing without having a dealer send the picture of the key code card, their dealer code and VIN to try and get the programming authorized.

- None from GM will work definitely.

@Tim McMullen Would you mind sharing the name of the smaller dealer who actually got it done for you?  I'd like to call them and follow that procedure.  I don't live in a big area, so I don't have any more options.

Reminder for that contact info @Tim McMullen

1. I have the keypad in my hands.  Do you know any dealers I could call who might work with me to do this?

2. Are you aware of any non-GM keypads?
