Seat Belt Chime is Driving Me Nuts !

I'm the happy owner of a 99 Silverado, but the seatbelt reminder is driving me crazy.

I'm a firm believer in the use of the belts, and I do so 100% of the time, but if 'm driving around a jobsite at 2-3 mph, starting and stopping, I'd sure like it if I was constantly "reminded" to buckle up.

Anyone know how to disable the seatbelt chime reminder on a 99 Z71 Silverado ? If so, THANK YOU !

When you open the door, look at the latch mechanism on the door. (Not the doorjamb.)

Flip the latch in there down. This makes the truck think that the door is shut.

Just remember to pull the handle up (in order to move the latch back to an open position) before attempting to open the door. Otherwise the door will not close.

While not a permanent solution to your problem, it works in a pinch.

I assume the seat belt chime is the same as the door chime someone else mentioned in this post. My 2000 never chimed with over the seatbelt though, I just got a flashing light on the dash for that. This is how I got rid of the door chime though.

If you take the panel off under the steering wheel there is a black box with 3 sets of wires going into it (purple, blue and brown). If you unplug the wires the box will pull out (there is a small tab on the top left--just push it down and the box will come out). After you get the box out you can open it up quite easily by pressing in the tabs on each of the corners. Once you open it up you will see a circuit board with a quarter size round black piece (that is the speaker). I tried putting some electircal tape over it, but it didn't muffle it enough for my liking. If you turn the board over you will see a small piece of plastic sticking through the hole helping to hold the speaker in. Use a punch of some type and break that off. Once that is off you can pretty much wiggle the speaker off with your hands (it is held on by two solder posts). If you have to use a small screwdriver for a little leverage. Once the speaker is off the board put it all back together and you are through with the annoying dings.... The whole process takes less than 5 minutes, it is very easy

If you want to disable the seatbelt reminder, simply jump together the two wires that end up to the seatbelt buckle assembly under the seat.

this is a simple fix, go under the driver seat and u will find a electrical connection where the seat belt bolts to the floor, undo the connection, no more chirping annoying seat belt buzzer, works on my 92 and just did it on my 2002, first thing i do when i get a vehicle cause i aint a big seat belt fan
