I'm looking to lift my 2020 Trailboss, to stay safe I'd like to go with a full lift to keep my angles flat. Originally I looked at the Bajakits king coilovers and a arm setup, but that doesn't lower my diff. I daily drive my truck and am a first responder therefore I drive in the rain/sleet/hail/snow so keeping 4wd auto is a deal breaker for me (readylift SST out of the running). Which leaves me BDS I'm between doing the 2.5" fox coilover lift or doing the spacer lift and going 4" (6" overall) if I have to buy new wheels. Budget is already stretched if I go coiovers so new wheels on top of lift and tires doesnt work. What I am wondering is if anyone has had success with the stock 18s and running a wheel spacer? I genuinely would like to stay in the 4" total lift department as I have an infant and wife uses truck occasionally so lifting him in and out of big truck is a hassle. Hoping someone has had success with the stock 18s and BDS

you can just get a differential lowering kit......they are just spacers and a bolts, not much to it and can find them everywhere

 

baja kits is solid as well as BDS

 

curious on why a trail boss if your gonna scrap out suspension anyway?

 

the KINGS are friggen pretty sweet especially if they are custom tuned

I have a 2020 GMC AT4 - I installed 2.5" BDS coilover lift (so 4.5" overall)- it will work with stock 20" wheels - but not likely with stock 18".  the AT4 18" is 26mm offset (5.75" of backspacing +/-) - so the tie rod from the BDS lift hits the edge of the wheel and tire, so you have to push the wheel out.  I have Method 18x9 NV wheels with 18 mm offset (so about 1/2" more inside clearance - 5.25" of backspacing than stock).  I tried a 1.25" extension - did not clear - so we ended up doing wheel lug extensions and getting enough bite on lugs to make it work, but I would not consider it ideal.  You need an 18" wheel with 4.5" of backspacing.  On the 20" wheel the added diameter allows for the tie rod to be "inside" the radius of the wheel, so you can run stock 20's or other 20's with up to 5.5" of back spacing.

 

I would confirm the offset of your stock Trail Boss wheels - if 26mm like the GMC AT4, you will have a tough time making it work without new wheels.   I can tell you that the suspension performs very well on road and is night and day difference off road.  If you go that route be sure and get the DSC upgrade so you can adjust compression and rebound to your driving conditions! 

 

Here is a few threads about it with photos and showing you clearance issues.   Note I had a 2019 AT4 with Ready Lift SST kit before and the CV angles were really bad - with BDS, it is dead level.  I would definately go that route, even if you just buy the lift initially and add shocks later, to get the level axels.

No you can't get a diff drop kit for these trucks, take a look under and see. To lower it the xmember is in the way.  I looked at doing it to mine, the drive shaft would run right thru the xmember.

 

To do any of it right with more lift than 3.5 total you need to but a real lift with drop xmembers and diff drop. At 3.5 4x4 works fine and no vibes at 8k miles.

    • My truck is a ¾ ton but my placard also says 80 for the rear tires, I think I might have the upgraded suspension to the 3500 series maybe.   I put my air down to 60 and the light was still on, and there was no way I was putting over 60 psi in the rear empty and not towing because I knew the actual number Toyo gave me and I didn't wanna ruin the center of my tires!   And you actually can change it in the settings from metric or is and it will show kph or mph then when you go into your tire settings it will be either psi or kpa, but it would be nice to just change it directly on the tire psi page

    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money". 
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back.
