i have a new thermostat and new coolant temp sensor. still over heating but not everytime i drive it. over heating stops once i let out all of the pressure out of the coolant reservoir and it comes back up smelling burnt and a burnt color. what do i need to fix!?

trying to see if it’s anything else before that. that’s the last thing i’m gonna check. hoping it’s something else

They make head gasket test kits to see if there is exhaust gases in the cooling system.

 

Other things could be a poor flowing water pump or even a failing reservoir cap.

Purge line drums from driver head, thru throttle body to passenger head and then back to tank. Pull the hose and verify there is flow. If yes, then HG is the likely problem.
