Put the Auto 4WD to Test in Virginia on Dec 5

The wife and I returned to Florida on Dec 5 and none too soon. We woke in Northern Virginia to snow flurries and about 6" on the ground by mid-morning (Leesburg, VA).

Needless to say, the snow plows had yet to arrive on the backroad of the residence we were staying in. No problem, I selected 'Auto 4WD' and the truck rose to the challenge. The driveway is about 200' and had no problem navigating it. I even did a 3-point turnaround on an incline and when the rear wheels started to slip, the front stepped up. I even drove into an un-plowed driveway at my brother-in-law's home (just down the street) and had to stop suddenly when I realized I was about to drive over one of his railroad ties that border his parking area. No problem! Locked the brakes, stopped, and promptly reversed course. Never was worried about 'getting stuck'. I'm sold on 4WD (this is my 1st 4x4)!

Once we were out on cleared roads, I pulled to a stop at a light and switched back to 2WD. I did notice decreased gas mileage during the time we were in Auto 4WD but for the 'insurance' and safety it provided, it was fuel/$ well-spent.

We don't get much (any) snow here in Tampa, FL but I'm glad to have the 4x4 for those occasional trips 'north'.

NOTE: We always drive safe and don't push the boundaries. Just glad to have the 4x4 capability and wanted to share this experience.

ya know I never figured I'd use the autotrac when I bought my truck, but after driving extensivley on slick roads with it, i wouldn't have it any other way.

It basically equates to traction control for a 4WD truck, it works VERY well.

I guess it's just one of those things I never knew I wanted until I had it :jester:
