Tranny Pan

Now I'm thinking with the 5.3 on my 99 Z71, I've got the 4L60E tranny, but when checking the parts store, there's a deep and a shallow pan. Which would I have and how would I tell? The parts guy said they both have the same number of holes.

someone awhile back said the deep pan measured like 3.5-4 inches. I ordered the deep pan. My guess is if you have the trans cooler you have the deep pan?

oh yea and when you order one it comes with the gasket already so you dont have to order one separate. I learned this recently (gasket was only a few bucks so no big deal)

The shallow pan measures under 3 inches I do believe. Mine measured a little over 3 so I assume its the deep pan. I also heard that the shallow pan doesnt have the little shallower part toward the rear of the pan.

Me and another guy on this board went back and forth about this trying to figure this out a while back. We determined that the deep pan is 3.5" deep on the deep end, and it has a step up to fit over the exhaust pipe on the back end.

My 2000 Yukon 2wd has the deep pan -- earlier this year I dropped the pan, changed the filter, and replaced with 5 new quarts (that's about half or a little less) of tranny fluid -- and I did this all with the deep pan kit. If you need the shallow kit (filter and gasket), I have one and I'd be happy to sell it to you for less than you coudl get from the dealer or GM parts. I ordered one by accident from GM Parts Direct (or PartsZoneOnline - I forget which) and then realized I needed the deep pan kit.

Anyone who needs the shallow pan kit, let me know.

Hope this helps.
