Integrated trailer brake controller

My truck didn’t come with a brake controller so I got the aftermarket integrated controller on the dash. There is a wiring harness behind the cover that was in a dummy plug.  I plugged it in to the new cover with the controller and I don’t get any messages on the DIC. Is there something that needs to be programmed or wired in.

I just bought one of the same but with different intentions in mind but I would assume something has to be programmed on the computer for it work. From what I've read, the LT models come with a lot of extra wiring for additional features that come stock on the LTZ models but are not enabled/turned on. I think the dealer has to either flash or reprogram the computer to enable/turn on those features. 

 

I got mine so I can add additional switches so I'll be cutting the trailer brake portion out, I just needed the flat part so the switches would sit flush.

I have seen a few threads where folks have tried to install the integrated controller but yet to see anyone get it working successfully. IIRC, there is more to it than just plugging in the OEM controller and flashing the computer. I think there were other modules needed to get the oem controller functional. The only option that has worked is using an aftermarket brake controller. There is a socket available to plug an aftermarket controller into.

this will not work unless you have a tech reprogramn the BCM or CAN bus.  try calling WAMS.com he can do it but will cost alot. cheapest rout is the Curt brake controller and curt plug in harness on Amazon, i paid $100 and it works great

Integrated - to incorporate into a larger unit

 

The dash switch is just one part of a the system and adding it to a vehicle that did not come with those system components (rpo JL1) is useless because the rest of the JL8 is not in the vehicle, chips, wire harness's, electronic modules etc.
