My buddy has a '69 Z28 that I've seen a bunch of times but never had the chance to go for a ride in... until Saturday.

It's a beautiful Yellow car with black stripes and a black vinyl "Halo" roof and a 4-speed.  This car was a frame-off restoration, and was put back together "correct".  Everything is right except the motor, which unfortunatly is a mildly built 400 c.i.

I was very impressed with my "ride" in this car.  He pulled out to pass and laid his foot on the floor without downshifting.  I was still firmly pinned in my seat as we passed into the triple digit marks.  And speaking of "marks", we left quite a few of them on the local road surfaces too...  ;)

Sounds like a nie ride...

But tell him to scrap the 400 and find a DZ302 block.....

Never should have sold mine :withstupid:

He is looking for a DZ302.  He already has the 302 badges on the hood cowl.  Those aren't the easiest motor to find and are very expensive, but that would make his car perfect.  I have another friend that has a DZ302 in his garage that needs rebuilt.  It has been setting there for about 10 years, but he won't part with it.

I suppose if he can't find a 302, the next best thing would a 350.

He has a '68 RS that he is restoring now, and he is going to put a 502 c.i. crate motor in it

Great car.  Is he going with a solid lifter motor?

I don't understand DZ302?  I know the 302, great motor, rev's to the sky, but don't know the DZ.

Wow, I haven't seen a Chevy 400 in ages!  Is it a small block or big block 400 (they had one of each).

Oh, unless he wants to keep it somewhat numbers matching, I'd say "F" it and dump a 454+ cube rat motor in it.

It's a 400 small block.  He has a cam in it and aluminum heads and a trick intake/carb.  His '68 RS is going to be his "crazy" car and it will have a 502 in it.  He already has the driveline ready (Ford 9" etc).

Mark, the DZ302 was the "hot" motor in the 68-69 Z28's.  It is a combination of the bore/stroke of a 283 and a 327.  Yes it is a rev happy motor, and it's most likely the one you are thinking about.
