Sierra c1500 transmission compatibility

hello everyone,

 

I ended up losing my 3rd, 4th & reverse gear a month or two back and ended up pulling a transmission from a 1998 chevy silvarado thinking i could get away with doing a swap but i've come across an issue the bellhousing designs are different my 1996 GMC sierra has the older style transmission with the dust cover and the transmission i pulled from the chevy has the full bellhousing design and of y'all got any work arounds, can i get away with linking up the chevy transmission or should i go pull another unit, thanks
