   I interpret your message as: Why does my starter motor continue to crank the engine over, even though I am not continually holding the key in the "start" position. So you turn the key, but then let go of it - and it continues to ... "try to start". The system does not crank the starter as a direct command from the key, the way that old cars do. The key tells the computer to start the engine, and then the computer tells the starter to .... start. It is considered to be "futuristic" and ... good, by some. I personally don't like it, but what can ya do.

If you are turning the key off, the engine is already running, so how would it attempt to re-start?  There in lies my confusion.

 

Also with these trucks, you don't have to hold the key forward in the "start" position in order to start it; simply tip it forward from the normal key on-engine on position and release the key, the engine will crank until it fires.  This includes ham-handedly shutting the truck off and accidentally bumping it forward again.

 

A tad more qualification of the symptoms and the situation would be helpful.

My 2018 chev Silverado did the same thing. Parked the vehicle turned off the ignition and pulled the key out half way to stop the door chime, and 5s later it tried to turn itself over again.
