It would cost GM less than a dollar to add a carbon monoxide detector somewhere inside or outside the vehicle on all the push button vehicles. So if the rig is left running in the garage, the horn starts honking, or some other sound, and it also triggers the automatic engine shut down (as long as the vehicle is not moving). Maybe a voice that repeatedly and loudly says "DANGER: CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTED, DO NOT ENTER GARAGE, EVACUATE HOUSE IMMEDIATELY AND THEN CALL 911". It would have a manual bypass or something that resets after 30 minutes, to allow for vehicle diagnostics and repairs or what ever.

If it cost $1 per unit, and they make 250 million cars, than I guess it would not make financial sense to install them though - since the company would probably not be responsible for the deaths due to the fact that on page 347 of the owners manual there is a "warning" that says ... Don't leave your car running in a closed garage..   I'm sure that the few lines of print cost less than $1, so it is what it is I guess.

Am I right? Who knows....

. Most houses have detectors throughout. The two vehicles I have with push button start. Makes  a racket when you open the door with the vehicle running. My garage is detached. I wouldn’t own a house with an attached garage.

I have never lived in a place that had carbon monoxide detectors when I moved in. I added the detectors myself in every room, every time. I have owned my home for 20 years, so I cant really say what apartments or rentals are like now - maybe now they have detectors by law, but I would never know. I don't own any push button rigs, but I have worked on a lot of them. I personally don't like the feature, but maybe because its not something that I am used to. As far as the attached garage is concerned, I agree 100%. I have an attached 2 story garage, and I don't like it at all. Its a fire hazard to the house, and any fumes leak into every level of the building, like if you try to paint or clean parts in the garage. I installed exhaust fans on the upper level of the garage, with limited success. I would trade my attacked garage for an old barn any day.

After the automotive industry killed a few people that left push button vehicles idling in there enclosed (and attached) garages....

The push button doesn’t matter to me. It’s a nice convenience. Several of my family members sell houses most detectors are built in now. I’m with you on the barn reference.

Just ask dealer to perform 21-NA-228 (Idle timeout disable) should cost about $60 for the change. Once completed motor will run until you shut it off, like a  normal vehicle.
