Tailgate Cables for my '00

Recommended Posts

I've noticed there are different part #'s for the left and right tailgate cables.

Does this mean they are different lengths specific to the side which they are designated for?

If not, why different PN's?

The ends are opposite

Be sure to add some clear silicone to the ends if you are replacing your cables...GM still doesn't have them sealed properly

Whoa  wait a minute..... I didn't respond to bbb because I know they aren't "bent" different, but I have the old (broken) factory cables right here, and instead of a small R and L stamping on the eyelets, they are identicle. So what you are saying GmcJoe, is that each side is flipped? Maybe the factory installed them wrong? I installed the new (identicle) ones the same, with the eyelet bolted to the gate and the clip on the fender.

strange....

thanks for the reply

I don't have pics, but if I remember right, one end of each cable is opposite, does that make sense?

There is only one way to install them

My question is who is the supplier of the cables..... and what happened exactly ? All I can find in the papers is that they're made of galvanized steel and they're switching materials

What exactly happened here though ? Anyone have any details ?

I just went out and looked at my 2004 pickup cables and they are stamped L & R and can be installed on either side. Ends of cable are sealed.

Yes, but still not 'sealed' properly. My replacement set is rusted as well :sigh:

I've heard a rumor that the new replacements will be stainless steel? We'll see.

If not, I'll use silicone to seal my next set properly
