Is it still making a noise? If you are sure that they did not pull the cover off & check it, maybe you need to go back and talk to them. If not, and your truck is under warranty, just go to an independent shop and ask them to inspect the rear diff. I mean it will only cost you 1/2 hr labour and some oil anyway, at the very least you get your diff serviced. Being in the auto repair business, I have a real problem with shops that tell you they did something they didn't, or worse yet, charge for something they didn't do.

If your truck is still under warrenty why not just take it to another dealer & get another opinion. A good way to test to see if it is to get right wheel on pavement & the left wheel on dirt & try to brake lock it, both wheels should spin. Then do the same thing with the right wheel on dirt & the left wheel on pavement, both wheels should spin again. The G80 locking differential has to a difference in wheel speed to engage & will disengage after 25 mph. I had the same factory locking G80 until I got tired of doing peg leg right hand turns. I ended up swapping the factory Eaton G80 for an Eaton LSD (posi-traction) and love it. It is very easy to predict rear end engagement & makes it easier to horsing around.

I bought an the following from reiderracing.com for about $650:

- Eaton posi LSD

- 4:10 ring gear+pinion

- rear end overhaul kit

- Ford posi additive

I had it installed at my brothers auto shop for $326 with a discounted labor rate.
