When did they stop putting in the spare battery tray?  My ‘14 1500 Silverado standard box had one. My 2022 1500 Sierra does not. I used the spare before  for a power hungry ham radio.
The engine compartment actually looks smaller too even though I went from 5.3-6.2L.

Yeah 2019. It really wasn't a spare battery tray in the previous gen trucks. Although you could install one there. It was just the place that was left open by moving the battery back to the firewall. Supposedly the reason for that is when the truck was involved in a front end collision. They battery would stand less of a chance of damage for Onstar to work.

Seems like terrible design logic. IMO. It seems like it would be smarter to put a small backup battery in that's good for 10 years and will last x number of minutes to alert emergency personnel. I don't doubt you are correct, but to me it would be the equivalent of Boeing hooking up the "black box" to an external power supply. It really makes me question much of the leadership decisions at the company.

That small back up battery would add $1000 to the truck. 😂

Knowing GM, that is probably on the lower side. Id be shocked if they did it for less than 3k.
