Unable to lock and unlock tailgate at times.

I have a 2015 Sierra SLT that at times won’t allow me to unlock the tailgate with the key. 
iT always happens when I need to get into it the most.

I purchased the truck used at the Chevy dealer and they tore it apart and fixed it while it was still under warranty.

Does not seem to be a long term fix. It’s very frustrating when it happens!

Im presently leaving the tailgate unlocked to not have it unusable. 

Anyone else have this problem, and if so what have you done to fix it?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Have you taken the handle bezel off of the truck to inspect the lock cylinder? 

It is very easy to do. It actually may be one of the rods attached to the handle itself. Take the access panel off of the inside of the tailgate to get to the handle and rods. Just need a T10 or T15 torx bit to remove the 8 or 10 screws.

I will check it out. That’s what I saw the dealer do.  
They didn’t replace any parts then though.

I will see if it’s bent out of shape and needing replaced.
