Looking at a 22 3.0 diesel Trail Boss. The dealer says it needs an exhaust part replaced. Asked what it is and he said he will get back to me. Is this a common issue?? I’m guessing the exhaust brake maybe?

So apparently someone filled it up with regular gas instead of diesel. They are flushing it out and replacing the catalytic converter. WTF

Any idea how much it was run before they figured that out?

No idea. I was wondering the same thing. Going to call tomorrow and ask. Even then it’s their word on it. We have a $1,000 deposit on it. Not sure we want it anymore.

Hopefully the PO didn’t do any oil changes.

It's a 22.

I was assuming it was brand new or demo and a dealer employee did it.

I'm thinking it's different if they filled it at/near the dealer an didn't drive it -- and didn't idle to much, vs work as a demo where it might have got a bunch of miles with testers 'seeing what it will do'.

Then there's the question of why they need to change emissions parts vs just drain and flush.

It is a demo truck. Our options are a little limited. Had a 2020 5.3 that got totaled by a red light runner. Don’t want one of the new ones without the fuel management.

I was working so my wife was the one who talked to the salesman. I just got off the phone with him. I asked how far it was driven. He said it immediately shut down and was towed back to the dealership. Not buying it unless they throw in the extended warranty.

Standard powertrain warranty for 6.6 and 3.0 dmax's is 100,000 miles.

Bumper to bumper is same as the gassers.

So you don’t think it’s an issue?

Not if what the said about it not running with gas in it is true.

If it's gonna have a problem, I'd expect it to be long before 100,000 miles.

I don't know what, if any, warranty they are prepared to offer.

Some don't know that the 3.0 has 100,000 powertrain warranty.

But if they offer something they are negotiating from 100,000 miles, not from the the 60,000 mile coverage provided for the gas powertrains.

Your miles per year and usual number of years of ownership are also factors.

Running the average of 12,000 per year, it's more than 8 years before the warranty will expire.

I was told it started and shut itself down soon after. So it did run for a short period. Isn’t the warranty 5 years or 100,000 miles? We had our 2020 for 16 months and only put 12,000 miles on it. So if that’s the case we would hit 5 years long before the 100k. My main concern is the injectors/fuel pump failing prematurely down the road. Want them covered for as long as possible.

Also worth noting it’s a dealership that is a few hundred miles away. I’m going to call my local dealership to talk to a service manager and get their take since they are the ones who will have to do any warranty work.
