I am in looking to buy a truck and came across a 2016 GMC Canyon with 67k miles for $20k. I have always been a ford owner and know absolutely nothing about GMC. After some quick research, I was finding that 2015-2016 were the worst years for the Canyon, hearing mostly of transmission issues. The specific Canyon that I am looking at is a manual, so I am not sure if the tranny issues apply to that. Any thoughts and remarks would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jacob! The 2015-16 models had a little issue with the automatic 6 speed that was completely fixed with a small program update. I haven't heard of any issues with the manual transmission, so that's not a concern. Not many of these manuals are available so grab it if that's important to you. Prices are all over the place, but I'm sure you're aware of sites like cargurus that can give real world updates of price ranges for your area. I still love my '17!

Manual they used was an Eaton FSO-2106 series 6 speed transmission.  Option code N8D.  Really no issues that are reported but they also produced very few manuals, 2015-2019 was the production window for it in the Colorado/Canyon.

Has a longer throw to it, but I think shorter than the 04-12 Colorado/Canyon manual was which is nice.  Obviously not sports car short.

The only concerns I see would be parts availability down the line if GM decides to discontinue certain items for it.

The only way these came is 2 wheel drive with the 2.5 Liter 4 cylinder Ecotec.  Not gonna win races, but the version of the 2.5 these trucks have is more reliable than the version in the 13-16 Malibu and 14-19 Impala as those had variable valve lift and the control solenoid is known to fail.  I'd keep the oil changes on the shorter side, not over 5,000mi as the 2.5 does have VVT solenoids and those are common on both versions of the 2.5.

I have a 2017 GMC Canyon it has 37000 miles transmission surges  when in a pull. also radio starts switching channels

going down the road. I've talk to several people that have the same problems, one persons truck caught fire and burned up the truck. These problems started about 1 year ago.
