This is the system I'm putting in.  The buttons on the controller don't work anymore and can't get a replacement.  So I'm going to cut the controller off and add a digital bag pressure guage and a switch to air up and down the bags.  I can't figure out how to add the switch.  The switch I guess is a 3 position momentary switch that defaults in the middle and you have to hold it to either side.  I assumed that one way will inflate  and the other will deflate as it came with the guage package.    I got the guage to work.

Will the compressor run only when you want to increase the bag pressure?

 

Where/how is the air exhausted to lower bag pressure?

 

Does the solenoid allow the pressure into the bag, or is it there to exhaust air?

 

Is there a check valve on the compressor discharge to prevent air leakage back through the compressor?

Yes the compressor only runs when you increase the bag pressure.  The air is exhausted from the air solenoid.   It is to exhaust the air pressure.  The check valve for air is that block.  The air from the compressor comes from the bottom and into the left and right ports atbthe top to the airbags.  The others a pressure sensor that tells it when to shut off at the set pressure.  But that all doesn't work anymore.  I need to be able to control it via the switch, thaya whatbi need help wiring it up.

There may be other ways of doing this, but this is what I would do.

 

A DPDT switch is available in toggle-switch style or rocker-switch style.    ...There will be six terminals and they may be screw terminals or push-on or solder type.

 

The reason for using a Double Pole Double Throw switch instead of a Single Pole Double Throw Switch (SPDT) is by wiring it as shown, you increase the life of the switch and add durability.

 

The switch needs to be DPDT  MOMENTARY (it returns to the center position when you release it) CENTER-OFF (no continuity to either pole).   ....There are lots of sources online.  ....Look for at least a 15 or 20 amp rating.  .....Price will be anywhere from $5 - $20 depending on what you choose.

 

Moving the switch one direction will activate the compressor.  ...Moving the switch the opposite direction will activate the solenoid valve.

yes that looks to be it.  But the guage came with a i guess a single pole double throw switch that i would need to use as its integrated in the guage mount.

i left everything plugged in as it was in the previous truck that was working for reference.  the solenoid has two wires, which is which?  I know the diagram shows one to ground and the other to the switch, right now the volt meter shows both have 12 volt power.

 

EDIT:  both wires show power when they're plugged in making a loop.  only one has power when both wires disconnected.

....The white wire from the solenoid needs to be separated from the old wiring and connected to ground.

It was grounded through the old connections somewhere - possibly in the controller.

 

Your original wiring schematic was not detailed enough to know.

Well I made the air compressor turn on with the momentary switch but couldn't figure out how to air it back down by pressing the switch the other way.  Come to find out that the digital air guage I bought is off.  I tried wiring it to the existing pressure switch there but it wouldn't read it.  So I installed the one that came with it but it was quite off.  At 10 psi the guage read 0.  At 30 it was 21.

Can I piggyback on your thread with a question?

 

I have an ARB dual compressor that I would like to use for my airbag setup. Would it be easier/more cost effective to just buy the purpose built system rather than try to adapt my current compressor? Wiring is my thing, solenoids and all that is not.

    • If it has a stick I can have fun with it. When my wife first got her Acura years ago I used to tease her about it. I was only interested in muscle cars. They’re gone now. So once a month I drive the Acura. Every once in a while I’ll take it to Redline. But just normal driving on some twisty back roads usually does the trick. 
    • I went through again with a test light and everything checked out.    I suppose it could be the MAF itself but I've tried 3 different sensors, 2 of which were in running vehicles previously (the one in this truck, and the one in the donor truck), as well as a new one I picked up from NAPA. I would just be surprised if all 3 were bad.   EDIT/UPDATE: I swapped in the MAP sensor that was originally with the 2010 PCM, that made the code for map sensor voltage high Go away, and the map sensor seems to read normal with key on engine off (14psi or so), but it still doesn't run and does the same thing as before.
    • In addition to a cell or wifi connection, the infotainment needs to be enabled to download software updates. That's a toggle within the system settings.   But...if the truck was prevented from receiving updates in a past life, missing a bunch of updates may mean it won't go back and download all of those because they're not available or the system is too far out of date.   If a formal recall depends on a software update, the recall for that truck remains in an open status until it's applied. The dealer would need to apply the software update in that instance.   Most updates downloaded and applied via the infotainment aren't recalls/safety recalls, they're enhancements and usability fixes which aren't critical.
    • Recently I've been getting a message, "New Brake Pads Detected. Reset Brake Pad Life?", But I haven't had the pads replaced and the truck only has 28,000 miles. The Brake Pad Life shows Front 64% and Rear 79%. I select NO to resetting the brake pad life and the message goes away but comes back at the nest restart.   I stopped by the dealer and was told that it sounds like a software glitch that would require reprogramming. Even though I have the extended warranty, they tell me that reprogramming is not covered unless a module was actually bad and needed to be replaced. Simply reprogramming is not covered. So, they want $200.00 just to diagnose the problem. If it turns out no bad module, another charge on top of that to do the reprogramming. If the cause was an actual bad module, everything would be covered under the warranty.   Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Should this issue be covered under the warranty?   Thanks
    • NHT is diesel only, correct.     The GVWRs for NHT on 3/4 ton bring them to the same numbers as many of the 2WD 1 tons.  A crew 4x4 standard 3/4 with NHT is 11,750lbs, a 1 ton same cab/box/4x4 is 12,100lbs.     Hubs and hub bearings are the same for 11.5" and 12" axles.  Housing, diff carrier and ring/pinion are larger for the 12".   All gas use the 11.5" axle, 3/4, 1 ton and 1 ton DRW.
