Thinking about this but buying a ECM online and keeping my factory one.

Any input by end users?

I would be interested to know if you can just buy an ECM and swap it out like you could in the old days? I'm wondering if GM put up barriers so people can't do this?

it has to be programmed to the vehicle and the truck will not start or run unless it is. Once it's programmed to your VIN I think you could swap it out with the original when ever you need to. why would you want to? just get a tune

My thought was to keep any warranty issues from arising if needed so buy a module online and give the tuner your VIN and let them get it all ready then stash your factory one just in case.

What are you thinking about on this?

Do you mean to tune your factory ECU?

Or??

TIA

Read the details. You have to send in the ORIGINAL ECU. You can't buy a random one and send it to them.

Yeah, I read the details I am assuming that they are just saying that as they think you may not want to invest the extra $$ in the addl ecm.

As with some companies you are not getting YOUR original controller back anyway.
I am thinking they are programming it TO your VIN and can do so with any of the ecu's that are unlocked out there just like HPtuners does, hence the ECM "exchange" program.https://www.hptuners.com/product/e90-modified-ecm-purchase-ecm-exchange-service/

Again looking for end users of the product, will call the seller today.

Cheers

HP Tuners is using a hacked older chip into the ECU to bypass the encryption on the new ECUs. Those are actual exchanges. Superchips actually found a way to break or by pass the encryption without butchering the original ECU with an older chip. I know Dodge tuners have additional ECUs you can purchase that are tuned or "cracked" to allow you to program them further. I have not seen this yet with Superchips or the other Holley tuner companies.
