6.2 rear main oil seal replacement

Recommended Posts

Remove the engine or the transmission as the rear main is behind the flywheel. I'm not sure on removing the pan in the truck, might be easier in the long run to remove and reseal the engine on a stand unless you have a lift to do it on

Both can be done with the engine in the truck.

Remove the transmission for the rear main seal. The oil pan can be removed if you drop the front differential out of the truck and you may need to unbolt the front crossmember.

Ok thanks for all the replies Iam thinking pull engine and do a complete reseal as well as 2 broken manifold bolts on exhaust I guess while engine is out a timing chain and gears would be good idea has 214000 miles runs great no issues other than pan and rear main weeping oil have owned since new

The timing gears never fail and rarely ever have wear, so that's up to you. I've taken apart engines with 300k+ miles and they look fine. Most new chains have just as much slop to them too but I think the 6.2 will have a plastic tensioner on them.
