Alternator upgrade

Has anyone changed the factory 100 Amp Alternator to either a 130 or higher amperage? I need more juice due to running some accessories and the plow. Wondering if you have to just change the belt or do all the pulleys have to be changed? Any input is appreciated.

I've been sorta curious about this too. Like what happens if you install a 200 amp alternator, what happens to the rest of the charging system when you aren't drawing enough to justify having the 200 amp alternator? See what I mean? LIke what's it do when you ARENT running 8 daylighters and a 1000 watt stereo

Would it over-heat anything, etc?

You can go higher output CS130D if yours is stock CS130D, ditto CS144 alternator.

Both of these GM alternators have regulators and will self regulate to the load up to their max ratings (low duty cycle rating). Like putting in larger engine, only going to get as much HP/torque as you throttle, so no "extra" amps going around to burn up the engine bay...

Here's picture of the two side by side. CS130D is the little guy and CS144 is the bigger one Cs14130d.jpg
