Tow package / Max tow package ________ Brake controller????

My question is for my 23 suburban high country. It has the tow package but Not the Max tow package. I am wanting to know if you can add the factory style brake controller? If so is it a simple plug & play type of install.
At this point would I be better off with one that you control with your cell phone? If so what unit is best?

The factory controller CAN NOT be added after the fact.  

 

Aftermarket controller of your choice is the option here.

While I'm not sure how things are configured these days for after market brake controllers and their installation but I bought (new at the time) 2014 Sierra and it was a trailer towing equipped unit but not H.D.?

 

Therefore I bought the proven Tekonsha P3 under dash controller and also had to buy the GM P/N 23184088 harness.

It easily plugged between said controller and an inner firewall mounted "J" box.

The box was mounted similar in place to where an old school fuse box would be.
