So. I bought a 2014 gmc sierra. Have had nothing but issues. Drove it 5 times and bam. Transmission went. Long story short I also know this guy who had it before was not very good with electrical. So my mechanic said. I've had a p2099 code off and on for almost a month.. drives horrible and getting a wonderful 8 mpg. Today another code popped up p0430. I been trying to figure this out and fix it myself because I'm still paying it off and not making headway when paying for everything 3lse it needs.

Its running too rich and killed the catalytic converter. You need to start diagnosing why it isn't able to correct the fuel trim to what it is supposed to be. 

 

Your mechanic says the previous owner wasn't good with electrical... sounds like something is screwed up. Why didn't the mechanic fix it?

 

To provide further help we would need more information... any modifications to the vehicle, what all has been done to correct the issue, maintenance and vehicle history, engine size, mileage, drive train, etc.

The mechanic did fix the issue that I was having at that time. My truck has 180000 miles on it. 5.3 v8. I did fuel treatment, changed air filters, cleaned mass airflow sensor. Put a new transmission in it. This is the 3rd one for this truck. As for modifications I am not sure what else he had done to it.. said rear window didn't work and wasn't sure why. I looked into it. Well he cut the wires off going to it. Haha good reason.

I am afraid I do need a new catalytic converter.  I'm just trying to try every other option first .

At most, this truck should be on its second transmission.

Why so many pre-mature failures?

 

Your options should be to fix the cause of engine running poorly. Replacing the catalytic converters before that would be a waste.

 

Since the truck has been seen by a mechanic - was there any kind of diagnosis or recommendation regarding why the truck is running too rich? Further, if it is indeed running this poorly, the engine should be throwing codes, so why is it not?

 

I would suspect the previous owner has done something to prevent the truck from actually seeing how poorly it is running and thus it can't correct it, are the upstream O2 sensors intact and performing correctly? Your mechanic should be able to easily verify this and if not - find a new one. So far from what you've said I already have my doubts about this mechanics ability.

    • Do you remember that Harley Davidson was more successful (solvent) when it produced about 60% of the market demand (by design) and forced wait times of up to three years? Even when your turn came around it was, "Take what we are giving you or move to the back of the line and start over". HUGE markup's were 'normalized' and dealer killed. 40% markup and no floor plan? What's not to love? Greed will kill them yet. They have surplus production and customer base is tanking. And still they think nosebleed pricing will work.  
    • The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.  
    • Okiee dokie there bud, way to take things to the extreme.   I guess you missed the whole point and take things way to serious. I installed different EV6 style injectors that just so happen to be larger in my car running the same LQ4 engine and with a better spray pattern than the stock style injectors and I noticed no difference in the idle quality. Kinda was my round about way of saying that even if you put the same size but better style injectors in your truck, you will likely see the same thing.    I'm sure you're great to have conversations with in person if that's how you act through a keyboard. One little things sets you off and now I guess my dick is all up in your face.
    • I can't believe that could possibly be the case. It should be 36mo/100k miles from installation. Then again, it also seems like since a dealership installed it, it'd all be in the system and you wouldn't need to worry about registering, either. Shows you what I know. 😄 Hope this one outlives the warranty!
